Comments:

We are proud to offer one of the very few Ghia bodied Ferrari which were only

made in a very short period up from 1950 to 1951 being the successor of the

166 and the predecessor of the famous and very successful 212 models. In

the early days Enzo Ferrari has chosen for the design and bodywork the most

famous design companies available in Italy. Most of the early 166 have been

made by Touring before Enzo started in 1950 the cooperation with Vignale and

more or less in the same time with Ghia. While Ghia had only produced

around 28 different cars with different engine displacements and

bodies for Ferrari, Vignale closed the gap with a bigger output of design and

quantity before Enzo Ferrari commissioned the responsibility to Pinin Farina who

was up from 1953 more or less the exclusive disigner of the marque.

Although only very few 195's have been produced at Ferrari it might be

interesting to know that the Mille Miglia 1950 had been won on a Touring bodied

195 S by Giannini Marzotto,  which was a handsome and young member of

Italy's industrial post war aristocracy. The same car was found a few month later

being in the lead at Le Mans before being side-lined by a failed generator

mount. This clearly shows how competitive the 195 S model and especially the

early 2.300 ccm reinforced 12 cylinder engine with its three carburettor setup has

been in 1950/51.

The Ferrari 195 S Ghia two seater model on offer is just one of 8 cars which

have been produced in 1950/51. Compared with its sister cars we could say that

it has the most fascinating history of all of them. Before delivery to its first

owner it was the Brussel Motor Show car representing the work of Ferrari on their

stand. It found its new owner through Jacques Swaters Francorchamps with Leon

Sventorghetski. Leon Sven how he was called by Jacques Swaters belonged to

the circle of post-revolution Russian emigrants. Beside he was the Spa-

Francorchamps circuit's promoter and a great friend of Jacques Swaters who

remembered him in his famous Francorchamps book published in 1992 as a

"precious moral support in the good times, but especially during the bad times".

Later the car was raced on the legendary Liege-Rome-Liege Rally in late August

1957 at the hands of De Lannoy and Henry. It is pictured racing in the book

Marathon de la Route by Jean-Paul Delsaux and as well in Jacques Swaters Book

Francorchamps.

In the sixties it found a new owner with William D.M. Hay, Hampshire UK who

obviously owned it until 2008 when it was sold to its last German owner. It

seems that # 0089 S might be the one and only 195 S Inter Ghia having had a

single ownership about more than 40 years.

The car received from 2003 until 2005 a complete nut and bold body off

restoration by one of the leading restoration companies in England which is

documenetd by a large and amazing photo documentation and as well by the

bills and later service records accompanying the car.

After its gorgeous restoration William D. Hay took the chance to drive the 195 S

in the Mille Miglia 2006 where it was seen again as well with its new German

owner in 2009.

Important to know is also the fact that # 0089 S received its "Certificazione

di autenticita" by Ferrari in 2008 confirming the originality and especially

its original engine with its three carburettor setup.

We had lately a test drive where we found the car technically in splendid

condition. The engine surprises with its torque and smooth sound. The

gears shift properly as they should and it is interesting to find how good these

early Ferrari could be on the road today.

We only could ask the interested enthusiast to read the description carefully to

find what it represents. This is a Ferrari collector item out of the early period

of Ferrari very near to the heart of the legend eligible for each famous rally

including the Mille Miglia and as well good enough for each bigger Concourse.
