Comments:

We are proud to offer the Ferrari Dino 246 GTS. According to our research

chassis no. 08070 finished assembly during April 1974, and was desirably

equipped with air-conditioning, power windows, leather upholstery and

Cromodora alloy wheels. Perhaps more importantly, the 246 GTS was finished in

Viola Dino Metalizzato paint, a rare original factory colour that has been applied

to as few as 31 Dino GT/S's. A more detailed research brought the result that

only seven  246 GTS delivered in the US and just only one delivered as a

European version had been produced as LHD in this colour.

Distributed for retail to William Harrah's well-known Modern Classic Motors in

Reno, Nevada, this Ferrari was most likely originally purchased by a West Coast

owner. As by 1980 it was in the possession of Dave Aase of Anaheim, California.

In 1982 Mr. Aase sold the GTS to Steve Mettler of nearby Huntington Beach. And

four years later, the car had accrued only 16 000 mls. Painted red around this

time, 08070 was bought in early 1996 by Mike Liphtay, also of California. Mr.

Liphtay relocated to Florida and sold it not long after to an East Coast.based

collector. In early 2011 the Dino GTS was acquired by one of the most known

Ferrari enthusiasts based in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

At the same time the car benfitted from a recent mechanical refreshening,

including an engine reseal, a gearbox overhaul with new synchros, a new

steering rack and a rebuilt of the brakes.

Initially impressed with the Dino's overall condition and an odometer-reading of

just over 25 000 mls the last owner was even more delighted when he

discovered the shade of original violet paint that existed in some gaps beneath

the newer finish in red.Opting for a comprehensive cosmetic refurbishment, he

commissioned a complete bare-metal repaint in the original Viola Dino

Metalizzato colour which was also confirmed by the Ferrari factory to be its

original delivery colour. Beside the new paint job which has been carried out

flawlessly he commisioned as well a reupholstery of the entire interior with new

black leather and "mouse hair" dash surfacing.

All window gaskets, rubber seals, and weather stripping were replaced, while new

carpets were installed in the cabin and trunk. The chrome was replated or

replaced as needed. A new Ansa exhaust system was installed.

Last not least we able to reassure that the engine, gearbox and body

numbers correspond as so called matching numbers with the numbers confirmed

by Ferrari.

After all these years playing around with cars and especially with Ferrari I have to

say that we are more concerned about finding and locating cars in colours which

are rare and not easy to get. Sometimes we bought cars in regular colours

knowing that the delivery colour had been something special in order to come

back to originality. Today there is nothing to say against Oro chiaro (gold

metallic), Nocciola (copper metallic), Avorio (cream white), Rosso Dino (orange)

or special green colours like Verde Pino metalizzato (dark green metallic), Verde

bahram (special Ferrari medium green) or Verde medio (greenmetallic). All

these rare colours are presenting the Dino's dramatic design in a new exotic

appearance and sometimes in a very exciting way.

So why not going for Viola Dino Metalizzato from which only 8 lhd

Dino GTS have been produced ever?

This is the first time in years that we had the chance to acquire one of these

rare purple painted cars. The violet colour appears in different shapes

depending whether it receives bright sunlight or shadow. It varies from dark

blue, to blue, purple and violet - very, very exciting.

By the way we are able to confirm that the paint job and bodywork have been

carried out on a very high standart.

These days we had the pleasure of driving the Dino on offer through our hills

and mountains to make some nice shots for our website. But I have to admit

that this Dino is driving so wonderful that I immediatedly started a longer trip

enjoying the wonderful warm spring weather, listening to the wind and the great

sound of the six cylinder four cam engine. Dino's are well balanced because of

their mid engine concept. This car drives extremely well having a wonderful

engine, shifts gears faultlessly, benfits of its stiff suspension and its perfect

brakes - what a joy.
