Launched at Paris in 1975 the gorgeous Pininfarina-designed Ferrari 308 GTB

replaced the Dino 246 and accompanied the angular Bertone designed 308

GT/4. The initial 712 examples were the first Ferrari road cars bodied in

fiberglass, known in Italy as "vetroresina", with subsequent cars rendered in

steel to the end of the 308-series production in 1985. Breathing deeply through

a quartet of twin-choke Weber carburetors, the mid-mounted, all alloy, four-cam

V 8 engine of the 308 GTB initially produced 252 bhp in European market tune.

With fully independent suspension, four wheel disc -brakes and outstanding

balance, the 308 - particularly the early fiberglass-bodied cars - are rightly

coveted by Ferrari enthusiasts.

The 308 GTB on offer has a long term ownership in Italy until it was bought by a

serious German Ferrari collector in 2014. In this time the car had a red livery

with it original beige interior. After receiving the Ferrari factory comfirmation

about its original and very special colour of Blu 20.A. 185 Salchi. The new owner

immediately decided to paint it into its original color knowing that this 308 GTB

Vetroresina was the "one and only" 308 Vetroresina receiving this especially

ordered colour.

While the car was taken apart it became obvious that the car needed some

more mechanical work as expected. The work was carried out by one of the well

known marques specialists in Germany and ended up with a neraly complete

restoration within two years. The restoration receipts and service bills came up

easily to an amount of 100 k USD. The car is accompanied by a large file of

documented work and as well a large photo documentation about the work which

has been carried out.

A recent test drive has shown that the car is mechanically in splendid conditon

and a real fun to drive. It has the lightest body of all the 308 GTB and this is

what it makes it easy to drive, well balanced by its mid-engine design, reliable

with its independant wheel suspension and lots of torque by its highly tuned

engine. The 308 GTB Vetroresina is showing unbelievable driving skills already in

the early seventies.

Compared to its predecessor the 246 GT Dino the 308 GTB Vetroresina was a big

step into the future for Ferrari, much more fun to drive, much more power and a

ten times better handling and a dramatically increased power output by

its famous 8-cylinder 3000 ccm four ohc-engine.

If someone is looking for a 308 GTB this is the car to go for.
