| This late production example (227th) was finished at the factory in Grigio | |
| Argento 18940 M Italver with red interior and was delivered by Baron Emmanuel | |
| “Toulo” De Graffenried’s official Ferrari dealership Italauto SA in Lausanne, | |
| Switzerland to its first Swiss based owner in February of 1964. |
| The first few years it was until 1967 serviced at the Ferrari Factory Assistenza | |
| Clienti at Viale Trento Trieste in Modena. | |
| It appears that it was shipped to the US by the late sixties or early seventies. | |
| Little is known about its US history until today. |
| In 1986 it was purchased by Marcel Petitjean First Automobiles of Vendenheim, | |
| Strassbourg, France. The Lusso was added to his large and famous Automobile | |
| Collection and has remained on static display until 2022 when the whole | |
| Collection was on sale by RM Sotheby's auction in Paris, France. |
| The auction house had announced before selling a little warning: |
| "As a result of the aforementioned period of static display, a recommissioning | |
| programme is recommended prior to use." |
| This was quite a bit disturbing what this warning could have ended up with. The | |
| new owner underestimated the recommendation for a "recommissioning | |
| programme". The little warning ended up in a complete restoration which was | |
| invoiced at 450.000 Euros, which is an equivalent of roughly 520.000,- USD. |
| Needless to say and report what a nearly 40 years "static display" could arrouse | |
| in harm to any car. This Lusso was not an exception. |
| By looking into it, it became clear that it was not good enough to change spark | |
| plugs and adjusting the carburettors to bring it back to the road. The | |
| "recommisioning programme" was a synonym for a "complete restoration" in | |
| kind words. |
| It didn't take long to realize that it needed the mother of a restoration, full | |
| dismanteling of the whole car and starting the restoration by scratch. The new | |
| owner decided to entrust the full restoration to the leading Ferrari | |
| restoration companies in Italy with Bacchelli & Villa in Bastiglia, Modena for the | |
| cosmetics and Autofficina Sauro in Bologna for the technical side of things. |
| To have it simple: the result is a new Ferrari 250 GT/L Lusso. |
| The whole restoration took nearly 3 years and is accompanied by an amazing | |
| amount of invoices and as well hundreds if not thousands of photos | |
| documenting the work. |
| After its restoration it received by Ferrari its Certificazione di Autenticita (Red | |
| Book) confirming its original livery as Grigio Argento with Rosso interior and | |
| having still its original matching number engine and gearbox. |
| I suppose that this restoration is exceeding the expectations of most of the | |
| Ferrari enthusiasts. We strongly recommend not to wait too long if | |
| someone is keen to own a Lusso, coming out of a fresh high level restoration | |
| which was finished in autumn 2025. |
